Ascent 2031

Our five-year ESG and social value strategy. Five camps, five gates, and nothing claimed before it is measured.

Why this plan looks different

A small operator earns credibility by refusing to inflate.

A national contractor can pledge to uplift a million lives. We are not that, and we won't pretend to be. For a business our size, what scores in a tender isn't the size of the promise. It's whether an evaluator can trace it back to a record.

So Ascent 2031 starts with a baseline year, and gates every year after it on a condition that has to be verifiably true before we claim the next altitude. If a gate is missed, it's reported in the year it's missed.

The rule the plan is built on

We do not publish a number we cannot evidence from a source record.

Every figure traces back to something already captured in AOG Ops, a job sheet, a sign-off, a postcode, a training record, or it doesn't get published. The same discipline we already apply to compliance, applied to carbon and social value.

Three routes, one summit

Each route has an owner whose name is on it.

Select a route to see what it covers and what it delivers across the five years.

Scope 1, 2 and material Scope 3 baseline, then targets against it
Published Carbon Reduction Plan in the Government's Annex A template
ISO 14001 certified since before this plan, the baseline extends the system we already run
FORS Bronze, then Silver, then Gold, closing the gap between what we ask of suppliers and what we hold
Light fleet to EV and hybrid at natural renewal, not forced write-off
Telematics route optimisation on patrol and cleaning rounds
Operational waste diverted from landfill, contract by contract
Net zero Scope 1 and 2 by the summit, with offsets reported separately
Owner · Anant Mishra
Real Living Wage as written policy, then Living Wage Foundation accreditation
Local hiring measured by postcode against each contract site
Progression routes: officer to supervisor, operative to site manager
Apprenticeships and formal training across all five divisions
Ex-forces, care leavers and ex-offenders into SIA-licensed roles
Social value reported in £ per contract, using TOMs proxy values
Owner · JimPatrick Munupe
One named director accountable end to end, reviewed quarterly at board level
Voluntary Modern Slavery Statement from Year 1, below the statutory threshold
Annual public ESG and social value report
AOG Supplier Charter, issued only after we hold the standards ourselves
Independent limited assurance over the carbon figures from Year 4
EcoVadis, Constructionline Gold and Achilles where the sector requires it
Owner · Matt Judge
The five-year route

Altitude is how farthe claim hasbeen verified.

This isn't a timeline. The vertical axis is the strength of the evidence behind what we say publicly, self-measured, certified, contract-wide, assured, verified. You can't gain altitude by writing a better bid. Select a camp to read the year.

Live now · Q2Year 01 · FY2026/27

Measure everything. Promise nothing we cannot count.

Route to Zero
Complete a Scope 1, 2 and material Scope 3 baseline to the GHG Protocol, fleet, head office, subcontracted operative travel and operational waste. Delivered by extending the ISO 14001 system we already run, not by building a parallel one.
Publish AOG's first Carbon Reduction Plan in the Government's Annex A template under PPN 006, signed at director level and lodged publicly.
Weigh and classify waste streams on the ten largest contracts to set a diversion baseline against the Environment Agency licence.
Ground Up
Confirm the Real Living Wage as written policy across all five divisions and open Living Wage Foundation accreditation.
Instrument social value inside AOG Ops: local labour postcodes, training hours, apprentice starts and volunteering logged at source.
Map the current workforce to establish local-labour percentage per contract.
Open Book
Complete the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme application, now at phase two.
Complete the Achilles renewal and return it to held.
Publish a voluntary Modern Slavery Statement. We sit below the £36m threshold; publishing anyway costs nothing but discipline.
Gate to Year 2

Baseline signed off and published, with SIA ACS and Achilles both returned to held. No numeric target in this strategy is claimed until this gate is passed.

For bid and procurement teams

Build the social value answer for your tender.

Tell us the framework, the sector and which divisions are in scope. We'll show the commitments AOG would put in writing for that contract, mapped to the standard you're scoring against.

01Which framework are you scoring against?
02What sector is the contract in?
03Which divisions are in scope?
04Annual contract value
What AOG would commit to
PPN 002 Social Value ModelMandatory for central government from 1 October 2025. We map commitments to the growth, opportunity, clean energy and safer streets missions, with KPIs set at contract level.
Real Living Wage for every person on your contract, from day one, across every division in scope
Social value plan issued at mobilisation, not at bid stage, with a named owner on your account
CSCS card sponsorship and site-based training for local recruits on the contract
Traffic marshal and gate-operative training routes, delivered on site rather than off it
Security: ex-forces personnel, care leavers and ex-offenders routed into SIA-licensed roles, with licence costs covered by AOG
Quarterly social value reporting in your monthly contract pack, proportionate to contract size, no separate reporting overhead for you
Worth knowing
PPN 002 replaced PPN 06/20 on 1 October 2025 and is built around the Government's five missions rather than the old themes. If your authority is sub-central, National TOMs may still be the right model, we report against both.

Anything marked "Adding" is a commitment, not a claim. We don't hold it yet, and we've published the year we've said we will. If a date slips, it's reported in that year's ESG report rather than quietly moved.

The commitments behind the commitments

What we will not do.

A short list, because it's usually the part an evaluator remembers.

Buy our way to net zero

Offsets are reported separately from reductions. They're never blended into a headline figure to make the number look better than the work.

Publish social value without a source record

If a figure can't be traced back to a job sheet, sign-off or training record in AOG Ops, it doesn't go into a bid.

Ask our supply chain for what we haven't done

The Supplier Charter lands in Year 3, after AOG holds ISO 14001 and Living Wage accreditation. Not before.

Quietly restate a missed target

A missed gate is reported in the year it's missed, with the reason, in the same document as the ones we hit.

Governance

Someone's name is on it.

OwnershipThree named owners, one per route, Anant Mishra on Route to Zero, JimPatrick Munupe on Ground Up, Matt Judge on Open Book. The same accountability model as every AOG contract.
ReviewQuarterly at board level, against gates rather than sentiment.
ReportingPublished once a year, including the targets we missed.
On contractEvery contract review includes its ESG line. A standing item, not an annual event.

Need our ESG evidence for a live tender?

Tell us the framework and the weighting. We'll return TOMs-aligned social value and carbon evidence, mapped to your question, ready to drop into the submission.
